Gentanor Gentamycin is a powerful aminoglycoside antibiotic with bactericidal action against Gram-negative bacteria such as E. coli, Salmonella, and Klebsiella. It treats a wide range of infections including respiratory, gastrointestinal, urinary tract, and systemic infections in cattle, swine, goats, sheep, horses, dogs, and cats.
Description:
Gentanor Gentamycin belongs to the group of aminoglycosides and acts bactericidal against mainly Gram-negative bacteria like E. coli, Klebsiella, Pasteurella, and Salmonella spp.
The bactericidal action is based on inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis. Moreover, it is active against Campylobacter fetus subsp. jejuni and Treponema hyodysenteriae.
Gentanor may be active against bacteria which are resistant to other aminoglycoside antibiotics (like neomycin, streptomycin, and kanamycin). After intramuscular administration, within 30-60 minutes maximum serum concentrations are obtained.
Gentamycin is excreted mainly by the kidneys, resulting in high concentrations of the active compound in the urine.
Indications:
- Gastrointestinal and respiratory infections caused by gentamycin-sensitive bacteria, in calves, cattle, goats, sheep, and swine.
Horse, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs: septicaemia, respiratory infections (bronchitis, pneumonia, broncho-pneumonia, tonsilitis, tracheitis), gastrointestinal infections (coli-enteritis of calves, enteritis, gastritis, peritonitis), urinary tract infections (nephritis, pyelitis, pyelo-nephritis, ureteritis, urocystitis), arthritis, poly-arthritis, meningitis, mastitis, metritis.
- Dogs, cats: dermatitis, arthritis, respiratory infections, gastro-intestinal infections, urinary tract infections.
Contra indications:
Hypersensitivity to gentamycin.
Administration to animals with a serious impaired hepatic and/or renal function.
Concurrent administration of nephrotoxic substances.
Incomptability with other drugs:
Do not combine with potential nephrotoxic or muscle paralysing medicines.
